THE SAD STORY OF IMAM KAZIM (Pbuh)’S MARTYRDOM
The Motivation of Imam Kazim (Pbuh)’s Arrest
The persons of distinction among the companions of
Imam Kazim (Pbuh) state the reason of his arrest (which
was a command from Haroon Al-Rashid, the fifth Abasid
Caliph) as following:
“ Haroon let his son (Mohammad Amin) be with
Ja’far –Ibn-Mohammad Ibn- Ash’ath (one of Shias and
believers of Imam Kazim (Pbuh)’s Imamate) to be his
student and Ja’far train and educate him.”
Yahy Ibn- Khalid Barmaky could not stop his jealousy
toward Ja’far and said to himself “ if Haroon’s son
inherits the caliphate, the administration of my children
and mine (in another words the administration of
Barmakids in Haroon’s court) will be overthrown.
Yahya planned a plot against Ja’far (through so -called
friendship so that he makes him get trapped in Haroon’s
trap). He established a friendship with Ja’far and got close
to him .He often went to Ja’far’s home, watched his
deeds carefully and reported them secretly to Haroon ,
adding some more things to it in order to
provoke Haroon against Ja’far. This was the case till
one day Yahya asked some of his reliable companions
if they knew anyone from Abutalib’s progeny who was
poor so that he could help him doing some researches
and searches they introduced Ali Ibn-e Ismael Ibn-e
Ja’far Sadiq(Imam Sadiq’s grand son and Imam Kazim
(Pbuh)’s nephew ) to him.
Ali Ibn-e Isamail was in Medina . Yahya sent him a considerable
amount of money and encouraged him to go to Haroon.
Moreover he promised him another privilege and in this
way he was prepared to leave for Baqdad.
Imam Kazim (Pbuh) was informed about it, and summoned
Ali.” Where are you going? My nephew.” asked he.
“I am going to Baqdad”, answered he. “ Why are you
doing so?” asked Imam. “I owe to so many people and I
am so poor. I am going there to earn some money “, said he.
“ I shall pay for all of your debts and I shall be good to
you.” Ali did not pay any attention to his uncle’s words
and decided to go to Baqdad. Imam Kazim (Pbuh)
summoned him for the second time and asked him
if he wished to go then. “Yes “ replied he.
“ My dear nephew! Please pay attention to what I say, be
afraid of God and do not orphan my children”, said Imam
Kazim (Pbuh). Then Imam commanded to give him three
hundred Dinars and four thousand Drachmas. Ali left Imam.
” I bring God as my witness that his effort leads to my bloodshed
and orphaning my children.” Addressed Imam his companions.
“ Our lives would be sacrificed for you! You know this however
you help him and are good to him?” asked Imam’s companions.
Imam Kazim (Pbuh) answered: “ Yes. According to my fathers’
words, the holy prophet stated : when the bounds of relativity
has been torn and then it has been repaired and for the second
time it has been torn , God will cut it.” I want to repair it after it
has been torn so that in the case of another tearing situation God
would cut it.”
It is said that Ali Ibn-e Ismail traveled to Baqdad and met Yahya
Barmaky. Through the meeting Yahya asked about every aspect
about Imam which he liked the most. He added to what ever he
heard and informed Haroon of them after which he took Ali to
Haroon.
Haroon asked Ali about his Uncle Mosa Ibn-e Ja’far (Pbuh). He
slandered and backbit about Imam and he told a lie: “ The
money and the properties are brought to Mosa Ibn-e Ja’far
(Pbuh) from the east and the west of the world. He has bought
a farm costing thirty thousand Dinars which is called “Yasir”.
When the money was delivered to the owner of the farm he
said that he did not like this kind of money, he preferred another
one. According to Imam ‘s command he was given another
kind of thirty thousand Dinars.
When Haroon heard those lies he ordered to award him two
hundred thousand Drachma so that he could settle in another
area and live comfortably.
Haroon and Imam Kazim’s arresting
In the same year Haroon al Rashid left for Mecca to perform
Hajj ceremony, first of all he went to Medina and at the same
time he ordered to arrest Imam Kazim (Pbuh).
It is narrated that when Haroon entered Medina, Imam
with the companionship of some of Medina’s persons of
distinction went to welcome him. Then Imam Kazim (Pbuh)
went to mosque as usual. At night Haroon came beside the
holy prophet ‘s grave.” Oh, the messenger of God! I apologize
for, I have decided to put Mosa Ibn-e Ja’far in the jail. Because
he wants to separate your people and make
them disintegrated and shed their blood.”, he
said hypocritically. Then, he ordered to arrest Imam (Pbuh) and
take him to his place of settlement. They put him in chain. They
arranged two camel-litters, make him sit on one of the two
camel-litters, which was placed upon the camel, placing the other
one on another camel. With the camel-litters Haroon sent some
horsemen who were divided into two groups outside Medina .One
group left for Baqdad and the other one left for Basra. Imam was
in the second group and this was Haroon’s wish for, he did not
want people to know anything about Imam’s destination
(Whether he goes to Baqdad or Basra) and no one could realize
his accompanying horsemen. He ordered the horsemen to deliver
Imam to Isa Ibn-e Ja’far Ibn-e Mansoor at the time of their arrival in
Medina. Issa ibn-e Ja’far was the head of the prisons who lived in
Basra.
Imam Kazim (Pbuh) in various prisons
The horsemen took Imam Kazim (Pbuh) to Medina and delivered
him to Isabn-e Ja’far. . Imam spent one year in Basra in his prison.
Haroon wrote a letter to Isa Ibn-e Ja’far to kill Imam. Having received
Haroon’s letter, Ja’far summoned some of his close friends and reliable
ones, read the letter to them and sought for their advice. “Do not kill
Imam and ask Haroon to exempt you from this duty”, said they to him.
Isa wrote a letter to Haroon mentioning that “ It has been such a long
time since Imam has been in my prison during which I have tested him
and my spies were watching his every movements, but I could not find
anything about him except this fact that he was always praying. Even
I arranged so that one of my secret guards could listen to his praying.
According to my secret guard Imam was not cursing you and me, and
was not calling out our names badly and also was asking for nothing
but God’s forgiveness and blessing. Now send someone to here so that
I can deliver Imam to him or I will set him free for I suffer a lot keeping
him in prison.”
It is said that one of the spies reported about the praying which
he had heard from Imam (Pbuh) during his imprisonment .The praying was
“ Oh God! You know that I have always wished that you put me in
an easy place where I can say your prayers and You have embodied my wish ,
I shall appreciate You and I am grateful to You.”
2-In Fazlibn-e Rabi’s Prison
When Haroon received Isa’s letter, He sent someone to Basra, to receive
Imam (Pbuh) and sent him to Baqdad and to deliver him to Fazlibn-e Rabi’
(One of the ministers). Imam was in Baqdad for a long time in Rabi’s prison.
Haroon asked Rabi’ to kill Imam Kazim (Pbuh) but he did not accept to do it .
Haroon through a letter ordered Fazl to deliver him to Fazlibn-e Yahya.
3-In Fazlib-e Yahya Barmaky’s prison
Fazlibn-e Yahya , received Imam and let him be in one of the rooms
of his house having hired the watchmen controlling him . They reported
that Imam was always praying and he connected day with night through
praying and reciting Quarn, busy with praying and he was fasting so
many days and he was not turning his face away from the direction of
praying.
By observing Imam’s behavior, Fazl respected him a lot. Haroon had
received news about all these. At that time he was in “Reqah “
(A nearby city in Baqdad). He wrote a letter to Fazl demanding that
he had to kill Imam not respect him. Fazl did not obey Haroon and he
did not kill Imam. Haroon received the news regarding the issue. He
became very angry and summoned Masroor Khadim (One of his cruelest
men) immediately to go to Baqdad to
Moosabn-e Ja’far . “If you find him comfortable. You will give this letter
to Abbas Ibn-e Mohammad and order him to do as the letter dictates
to him”,said he.
4-In Sandi Ibn-e Shahak’s perison
Haroon gave another letter to Masroor Khadim demanding that the letter
must be handed to Sandi Ibn-e Shahak (a cruel Jewish jailer). It was
included in the letter that Sandi Ibn-e Shahak must obey Abbas Ibn-e
Mohammad in anyway.
Masroor Khadim went to Baqdad and entered Fazl Ibn-e Yahya’s house .
No one knew the reason of Masroor’s presence there. He directly went to
Imam and as he was told, Imam was convenient. So, he went to Abbas
Ibn-e Mohammad and Sandi Ibn-e Shahak and handed them Haroon’s
letters.
Shortly after that, Abbas’s delegate came hurriedly to Fazl’s house.
Fazl got nervous and accompanied Abbas’s delegate to his house.
Abbas asked for several whips and board -like objects. . Then he
ordered to bare Yahya and Sand Ibn-e Shahak whipped him for one
hundred times during which Abbas was personally witnessing the
event. After that, Fazl left Abbas’s house. Masroor Khadim wrote a
letter to Haroon through which he explained all the event regarding
the issue. Having recognized Sandi Ibn-e Shahak as a suitable person
for killing and torturing Imam Kazim (Pbuh), Haroon ordered Khadim
to deliver Imam to Shahak. So was it.
Imam Kazim (Pbuh)’s Martyrdom
At this time Haroon held a ceremony in his palace in which
so many men holding civil and military posts took part. Here
come his words at the time of addressing his guests:
“ Oh! The people Fazl Ibn-e Yahya is disobeying me and
I want to curse him, you do the same thing.”
“Damn on Fazle Ibn-e Yahya”; shouted the audience. Their
crying caused the doors and walls of Haroon’s palace to
shiver. Fazl ‘s father (Yahya) received the news. He went
hurriedly to Haroon’s palace and he entered through the
special gate (for special persons) so that Haroon could not
notice his presence there. And then he told Haroon “Is it
possible that His Majesty pay attention to my words?”
Haroon listened to him angrily.”Fazl is an inexperienced
young man .I make it up and do the unfinished job,” he continued.
Haroon got very happy and addressed people “Fazl disobeyed me
in one case and I cursed him now he repents and comes back to
me so love him!”, ” We cherish everyone who cherishes you and
we hate everyone who hates you. So; right now we cherish Fazl “
, reacted the audience.
Hereafter, Yahya Ibn-e Khalid went hurriedly to Baqdad. People
were shocked because of his unexpected arrival and this was
the top story of the day. However Yahya pretended in such a
way that he was there to control the affairs of the city and
agents’ and governors’ tasks. In doing so and trying to sound
truthful, he was dealing with the related matters.
Then, he summoned Shahak (the cruel executioner) and ordered
him to murder Imam Kazem (Pbuh).
He obeyed Yahya’s command which was determined to kill Imam. The
plot is as follows: Adding poisons to Imam’s food and let it be
beside him. Some said that he inserted the poison into some
dates. Shortly after eating the food, Imam felt the symptoms due
to consuming poison in him. He suffered for three days and on
the third day he returned to God and was martyred.
The story of burying Imam Kazim’s body
The Imam’s body was buried in QUREISH’s cemetery in “Babbottin”
section. This cemetery exclusively belonged to Banihashem tribe
and the persons of distinction.
It is said that Imam at the time of his martyrdom, said to
Shahak that he had a friend who lived in Baqdad near Abbas Ibn-e
Mohammad’s house who was originally from Medina and asked
him to tell him to come and be responsible for my ceremonial bath
and shroud.
“I asked Imam to let me cover him with shroud,” said Shahak.
Imam did not let him do so:” We are a family whose wives’
marriage- portion, the expense of the first Hajj ceremony
and shrouds of our dead are supplied with our purest properties”.
Said Imam.
“I have shroud of my own, I just want my friend to care for
my ceremonial bath and burying”, he Continued.
His friend was summoned and he did so.
Bibi Fatima Bint Asad A.S).
![]()
I was impressed by the majalises recited by Zakir Gulfam Hussain Hashmi at Imam Barghah Ali Raza Sharjah U.A.E. Especially The majlis on Bibi Fatima Bint Asad A.S). He recited such fazayal of the Bibi that I have never heard before and decided to look up on the internet and collect some of her fazayal and publish on my site. I was disappointed. I did not find a single article of Bibi on any Shia site, Albeit I found an Article on our Sunni brothers site minhajalmuslim.com. I am really surprised that we hold such great esteem for this Lady and no one so far has written a complete article about her and her great sacrifices for Islam (except that she was Imam Ali’s mother or that she looked after Our Holy Prophet and was like a mother to him, or in connection with her funeral) . I will try to write some facts about her but will be glad if Shia Webmasters (who know more details about Fatima Bint Asad, can write articles on her.
Her Nobility
Fatima Bint Asad was born into a household that was the center of spirituality. Her grandfather Hazrath Hashim b. Abd Manaf was the leader of Quraysh and keeper of Kaaba. He was a capable and generous man. He married a girl from his own family who gave birth to his son, Asad, who was father of Fatima Bint Asad. The Hashimi family in the tribe of Quraysh is well-known (famous) for its moral virtues and high (supreme) humanistic characteristics among the Arab tribes. Magnanimity, generosity, courage and so many other virtues are characteristics of Bani-hashim. Abdul Muttalib , who was a very discriminating man had assessed her nature, her intelligence and her capabilities from the very beginning and proposed her for his son, Abu Talib.
Her Characteristics
Fatima bint Asad was a most remarkable lady who followed the religion of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S). She believed in Allah and acted according to all the previous Prophets instructions. She believed and acted upon all the Books of Allah which has been revealed till then (before Islam ). This shows that she and her husband were Muslims from the beginning and so they need not swear allegiance to Islam. Doubting the Iman Of Abu Talib (A.S) is liking degrading this pure and pious lady, as she was in his Nikhah till his death, that was ten years from the time of her accepting Islam. She was at such a level of Piety that any Dua she said was fulfilled immediately. Even though her life was spent within the four walls of her house Fatima bint Asad was an exemplary women. She took extreme care of her husband and loved her children and above all the Prophet (S.A.W). She cooperated with Abu Talib wholeheartedly and she was a mother pure and simple where the safety and well being of Muhammad [S.A.W] was concerned. No wonder he loved and respected her so highly. Fatima Bint Asad has the privilege to bring up five of the Holy Masoomeen (A.S). They were Mohammad (S.A.W), Imam Ali (A.S), Fatima Zahra (A.S) and for a short time Imam Hasan (A.S) and Imam Hussein (A.S) too. Where as no other lady has this privilege. She was also a member of the privileged group who migrated to Madinah.
Her Family
She had four sons, Talib, Aqeel, Ja’far and Ali (A.S) and two daughters, Umme Hani and Jumana, and above all Mohammad (S.A.W) her adopted son.
Her home was the real cradle of Islam. Both Muhammad, the future Prophet of Islam, and Ali, the future paladin of Islam, were born in her house, and they grew up in it. Both of them were the “products” of her education. Her husband Abu Talib (A.S), figures as the greatest benefactor of Islam. She shared the distinction with him of rearing and educating Mohammad (S.A.W).
Some verses of Moulana Hasan Zafar Sahib in praise of The house of Fatima Bint Asad and Janab Abu Talib (A.S)
“Naboowath ho, Imamamath ho, Wilayath ho, Shahadath ho
Sabih ne Parwarish sehne Abu Talib me payi hai”
Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W) Muhammad was deprived of his mother early in life but he soon found a second mother in Fatima bint Asad. He, therefore, did not miss the love and affection that a mother alone can give. She did not spare any pains and looked after the Prophet [S.A.W] in his infancy, boyhood and youth. She made sure that the Prophet (S.A.W) has the best of everything. She dressed and fed him well. If her husband protected Muhammad from his enemies outside, she provided him love, comfort and security at home. It was in her home that Muhammad found emotional security and the emotional closeness of a family. Fatima Bint Asad use to put her sons on the bed of the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) so that in time of danger, Prophet (S.A.W) would be safe and if any harm came it would be to her son. She sacrificed her sons for the sake of Islam. When Mohammad (S.A.W) left Mecca and Hazrath Ali slept in his place she did not utter a word, Although Ali (A.S) was in a grave danger.
Aqeel Ibn Abi Talib He was born in 590. His Kuniyath was Abu Yazd. He accepted Islam at the time of Hudaibiya and reached Madina in 8th hijri. He fought in the Battle of Mu’tah. He became blind in his old age. He died at the age of 96. His son Muslim Ibn Aqeel was The first Martyr of Kerbala. He was Safeer-E-Hussain to Kufa. Muslim Ibn Aqeel’s two sons Mohammad and Ibrahim also met martyrdom in Kufa.
Ja’far Tayyar was a famous General. He led the forces of Islam in the battle of Mu’tah and was martyred in the same battle. His both arms were severed and he held the standard of Islam with his teeth. He was the Winged Martyr of Islam. Fatima Bint Asad was exceptionally fond of her son Ja’far, she loved him more than the others because he resembled Muhammad [S.A.W] very much, and was extremely intelligent. But for the sake of Islam she bore the separation from him and his wife, Asma bint ‘Omais, (when they migrated to Abyssinia on the Prophet’s orders with the first group of Muslim migrants ). He seemed to have inherited the family’s mastery over language and was also an eloquent speaker who could win people over to his viewpoint. It was with this same skill that he had won over the king of Abyssinia when the Quraish appealed to him to surrender the Muslims to them. He had eight sons. His son Abdullah married Zainab (S.A) and Mohammad married Umme Kulsoom (A.S). Janab Abdullah Ibn Ja’far’s sons, Aun and Mohammad were martyred on the lands of Kebala.
Ali Ibn Abi Talib Fatima Bint Asad ’s younger son was Ali Ibn Abi Talib(A.S). No introduction is needed for this great Imam. But I like to mention some facts of his birth as it also concerns the great Lady Fatima Bint Asad. She stayed in the Ka’bah for three days and had the privilege of eating the fruits of heaven. At the time of the birth of the Prophet Jesus (Isa) (P) his illustrious mother was forced to leave the Holy House. A voice said to her: O MARY (MIRIAM)! LEAVE THE BAITU’L-MUQADDAS, SINCE IT IS THE PLACE OF WORSHIP AND NOT OF CHILDBIRTH. But when the time of Hazrat Ali’s birth approached, a voice was heard saying: O FATIMA BINT ASAD! ENTER THE HOUSE (KA’BAH).
On Friday, the 13th of the blessed month of Rajab, 12 years before the ordainment of Muhammad (s.a.w ) as Allah’s Messenger, Fatima bint Asad felt that she was about to give birth to her child. She came to the Sacred Ka’bah and began to circumambulate praying as she walked, “O Allah! I believe in You and in the messengers and the scriptures You have sent. I believe in what has been said by my grandfather, Abraham (A.S) who built the Ancient House (the Ka’bah). So, for the sake of the builder of this House, and for the sake of the child in my womb, who talks to me and who is my helper and friend, I implore You to make my labor easy. The child I am carrying is a sign of Your greatness and power (Jalal). “(Al-Arbili, Kashf Al-Ghummah, vol. 1, chapter on Imam Ali (A.S).)
Fatima bint Asad leaned against the wall of the Ka’bah to rest. Miraculously, the wall opened. Fatima bint Asad entered and the wall closed behind her. ‘Abbas bin ‘Abd al-Muttalib, the Prophet’s (S.A.W) uncle witnessed this miracle. He and his companions rushed to the gate of the Sacred House, which was locked, and tried in vain to open it. Understanding that the Divine was at work there, he and his companions ceased to interfere. The news of this incident soon spread throughout Mecca.
Imam Ali (A.S) was born within the Ka’bah with his eyes closed and his body in humble prostration before the Almighty Allah. Fatima stayed in the Ka’bah for three days and as the fourth day approached, she stepped out, carrying her baby in her arms. She found the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) waiting to receive the newly-born child in his anxious arms. So the first face that little Ali (A.S) saw in this world was the smiling face of the Apostle of God, Muhammad (S.A.W). Imam Ali’s (A.S.) birth inside the honored Ka’bah is unique in the history of the world. Neither a prophet nor a saint was ever blessed with such an honor. (A Brief History of the Fourteen Infallibles, World Organization for Islamic Services, (Tehran: 1984), pp. 51.52.) It is an undisputed historical fact recognized by all historians that the Holy Ka’bah is the birthplace of Ali bin Abi Talib (A.S). Glad tidings were brought to Abu Talib and his household. Upon their arrival at the Sacred House they saw Muhammad al-Mustafa (S.A.W) there with the child in his arms. (Ibn al-Sabbagh al-Maliki, al-Fusul al-Muhimmah fi Ma’rifat al-A’immah, Ch. 1, p. 13.) He carried the baby Ali to the house of Abu Talib, where he, himself was brought up.
Fatima Bint Asad told that while she was inside the Kaaba, she kept hearing a voice say, Name this child Ali. The name Ali is an optimistic and cheerful name. It signifies nobility, eminence, and elevation. No one before Ali (A.S) had ever had that name, and no one before him or after him ever had the honor of being born inside the sacred walls of the Holy Kaaba.
Her Funeral
Now we will refer to the funeral of Fatima Bint Asad (A.S) during the Prophet’s (S.A.W) time. When Fatima Bint Asad (wife of Hazrat Abu Talib and mother of Hadrat Ali (A.S)) died, the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) was very much grieved.
Anas bin Malik says that when the Prophet [S.A.W] got news of the death of Fatimah bint Asad, he immediately went to her house, sat beside her and prayed for her.
He gave his shirt to be used as part of her shroud, saying he prayed to Allah to forgive her and give her the dress of Paradise.
When the grave was prepared the Prophet [S.A.W] himself examined it and with his own hands placed her into the grave.
Thus She was one of the few blessed people in whose graves the Prophet [ S.A.W] himself examined.
Verily, the Messenger of Allah gave Kafan (shroud) to Fatima Bint Asad (mother of the leader of the Faithful) in his own robe, when the women finished washing her, he (S.A.W) carried her bier on his shoulder, and he remained under her bier till he bought it to her grave.
The Holy Prophet (S.A.W) “remained under her bier” means that he did not carried it on his shoulder. In East Africa, a peculiar custom has been adopted: the son of the dead person remains “under the bier” literally; instead of carrying the bier or helping others carrying it, he places himself between those who are actually carrying the bier, and inconveniences them.
Then the Holy Prophet (S.A.W) put her bier near the grave, and entered the grave and lay in it. Then he stood up and took the body in his hands and laid it into the grave. Then he put his face near hers whispering to her for a long time, telling her “your son, your son”. Then he came out, filled the grave and shaped it properly. Then he inclined towards the grave, and people heard him (S.A.W) saying:
‘There is no god but Allah. O Allah, I am giving her to thee in trust’ .
Then he returned.
The Muslims said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, today we have seen you doing such things as you had never done before!’
The Prophet (S.A.W) said:
“Today I lost the righteousness of Abu Talib: Verily, she was so (kind to me) that whenever she had any good thing, she gave it to me, instead of using it for herself or for her own children. And I said once that on the Day of Judgment people would be assembled naked. She said: “Oh, the shame!” Therefore, I assured her that Allah would resurrect her with clothes. And I described the squeeze of the grave, and she said: “Oh, the weakness!” So, I guaranteed to her Allah would save her from it. It was for this reason that I gave her shroud from my own robe, and I lay down in her grave. And I knelt near her to teach her (the answers of) what she was being asked. And verily, she was asked about her Lord; and she said, “Allah is my Lord”; and about her Prophet, and she answered, “Muhammad (S.A.W)”. Then she was asked about her Wali and Imam, and she perplexed and hesitated a little; so I told her “Your son, your son”. And she replied, “My child is my Imam”. Then the two angels went away and said, “We have no authority upon you, sleep as a bride sleeps (with no worry at all).” Then she died again (i.e., her soul was taken out of her body again.)”
Mohammad’s(S.A.W) Sayings concerning Fatima Bint Asad
“May God bless your noble soul. You were to me like my own mother. You fed me while you yourself went hungry. Your aim in doing so was to please God with your deeds.” He often said, “I was an orphan and she made me her son. She was the kindest person to me after Abu Talib.”
“O God! Life and death are in Thy hands. Thou alone will never die. Bless my mother, Fatima bint Asad, and give her a mansion in Heaven. Thou art the Most Merciful.”
“My dear mother, may Allah keep you under His Protection. Many times you went hungry in order to feed me well. You fed me and clothed me on delicacies that you denied yourself. Allah will surely be happy with these actions of yours. And your intentions were surely meant to win the goodwill and pleasure of Allah and success in the Hereafter.”
“She kept her children hungry but made sure I got enough to eat. She did not comb her boys hair but put oil on my head and combed my hair”.
Her sacrifices
whenever Islam was faced with heavy onslaught it was the sons of Abutalib (A.S) and Fatima Bint Asad who stood as a shield and stoically bore the brunt of all sorts of catastrophes and calamities including the deaths and exiles but did not budged from safeguarding Islam. Who would be unaware of the sacrifices of Hazrat Ali (A.S) and Hazrat Jaffer-e-Tayyar (A.S) in the initial stages of Islam? They were always ahead in every field in every arena, ever ready to sacrifice themselves in the cause of Islam. They were true sons of Abu Talib and Fatima Bint Asad and real images of their selfless services. Even in Karbala at many places the examples of their sacrifices and dedications can be seen. In the epoch-making event of Karbala whoever from Bani-Hashim had the privilege of attaining the much coveted martyrdom was a flower from the garden of Abi Talib and Fatima Bint Asad. Today wherever the name of Islam has survived it is the fruits of their sacrifices. The Garden of Islam owes its freshness to these flowers.

SHAKE IT OFF
SHAKE IT OFF

One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well.
The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally he decided the animal was old and the well needed to be covered anyway, it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey. He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well and was astonished at what he saw.
With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off!
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up!
